The Alastair Swayn Foundation - RMIT Architecture Affiliated Fellowship, established in 2023, provides early and mid-career Australian architects and designers with invaluable opportunities for research, professional development, and interdisciplinary collaboration at the American Academy in Rome. 

This Fellowship is a landmark collaboration between the Alastair Swayn Foundation, RMIT Architecture, and the American Academy in Rome - opening a unique international platform for Australian architects and designers to contribute to, and be inspired by, a global community of thought and practice.

The eight week residential fellowship provides the Affiliated Fellow with opportunities to work on their research, cultivate their practice, and make new connections in the interdisciplinary context of the American Academy in Rome and within the larger intellectual and creative setting of the city of Rome and region. The Affiliated Fellow can participate in Academy programs, including lectures, concerts, walking tours, and site visits and other public programs in the disciplines the Academy supports.

During their time at the Academy, the Fellow will work towards undertaking a specific project and will deliver a public lecture in Australia upon their return. The Fellowship opportunity has been awarded to two fellows to date.
